Free Speed and Oshkosh Airfoil Programs

Instructions:
This will unzip two programs into a folder called Speed on C: drive. These files are: msvbvm60.dll speed.exeDouble click on Speed.exe for the program to run. Enter data and click run.The Speed Program will help you determine the maximum speed of an aircraft. You will need to enter the Flat Plate Drag Area, D/q. The table below shows typical values for D/q. D/q can also be estimated if the wing area is know. Simply multiply the wing area times 0.02 for a very clean, composite aircraft with retracts. Use 0.04 for fixed gear, aluminum airplanes.

FREE AIRFOIL PROGRAM

Instructions: This will unzip two programs into a folder called Aircraft on C: drive. These files are: Airfoil.exe, Aflnput.dat
Double click on Airfoil.exe for the Airfoil program to run. Enter data ( Five Jones-Joukowski parameters are entered to size airfoil) and click on results.Following are some airfoils to choose from. The book, “Modern Subsonic Aerodynamics” by R. T. Jones, on how to design airfoils using the Oshkosh Airfoil program is available from Aircraft Designs, Inc.
